Project Type: Renovation
Project Title: Branch Dental Clinic Renovations
Location: Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island
Customer: Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast, ROICC Beaufort, SC
Contract Value: $1,028,114
Completion: December 2008
Building 674 is the Naval Hospital Beaufort Branch Dental Clinic located on the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC. Because it is an operational dental clinic, all work was required to be performed between the hours of 1700 and 0600 each day and on weekends. Environmental equipment and systems affected by the renovations were required to be operational after each night or weekend to support the mission of the base.
The work included demolition of the existing chill water unit and air handler units and installation of a new chill water unit, air handler units and all HVAC controls; replacement of 685 fluorescent light fixtures and replace with high efficiency fixtures; replacement of all exit lights; replacement of approximately 24,000 square feet of acoustical ceiling; replacement of 10 doors and frames; replacement of 13 branch electrical panels and one Main Distribution Panel; and miscellaneous plumbing repairs.
Also included in this project was the replacement of 12 branch electrical panels and the Main Electrical Distribution Panel. Other renovations to the Branch Dental Clinic included replacement of approximately 24,000 square feet of acoustical ceiling tile and repair of damaged tile grid; replacement of receptacles throughout the building and installation of 126 new GFCI receptacles; installation of a new Public Address system and speakers throughout the building and replacement of 10 doors and door frames.
The SBG-EEG worked diligently to prevent interruptions to the daily operations. Although the contract required clinic staff to vacate their offices so work could be performed, the Site Superintendent went to extremes to protect the office space, cleaning each affected office each night and allowed the staff to return to the office each morning without vacating. This project was completed without incident.
